Meet the Scholars
Kaylene Eun attends the NC School of Science and Math in Durham, NC and wants to work either in the fields of human services, education or journalism.
Mckenzie Zobrist attends Mariemont High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and wants to tell people’s stories, hear about their experiences, and alter the field of journalism. She wants to help take steps towards new media platforms to expand the global community. Additionally, aspires to make a difference through her writing skills in whatever field she enters.
Yasmeen Saadi attends Blue Valley North High School in Overland Park, Kansas and wants to become a journalist for either a newspaper or a news station, hopefully as an overseas correspondent.
Olivia Pluska attends Enloe High School in Raleigh, NC and hopes to join the Peace Corp to receive more experience abroad and hopefully gain knowledge that will enable her to report on international issues. Her ultimate goal is to work as a journalist with news organizations to ensure that the full truth is being told without exceptions.
Daniel Park attends Durham Academy in Durham, NC and aspires to be a broadcast journalist. He wants to create a lasting legacy that expands cultural diversity in the media industry to the point where more Asian-American voices are represented on television and radio, placing their stories at the forefront of American news.
Warren Chapman attends Charlotte Teacher Early School in Charlotte, NC and is interested in pursuing a dual career in sports journalism and secondary education as a math teacher.
Tierney Reardon attends J H Rose High School in Greenville, NC and hopes to start a career in either journalism or law. Whichever direction she chooses, it is important that her work will have a positive impact on those around her.
Krystal Tome attends the School for Advanced Studies in Miami, FL and aspires to become an investigative Journalist and/or to write for Broadcast news.
Haylieh Palma Martinez attends East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC and hopes to become a journalist to offer a voice to those who lack one through her passion for writing.
Paola Santos attends Brentwood High School in Beverly Hills, CA and hopes to be a civil rights lawyer and advocate. She would love to pursue this on an international scale, building off of her experiences in Nicaragua and the U.S. to fight for social equity globally (specifically focusing on immigrant rights and criminal justice reform).
Abby McGehee attends Forth Worth Country Day School in Fort Worth, TX and plans to pursue a degree in Communications and Journalism. She is excited to attend college and explore the ways media is continually evolving and the effects it has on human interaction. She also hopes to intern with an advertising agency or a news outlet to get a firsthand look at jobs in the communications and journalism fields.
Katherine Keaton attends Middle Creek High School in Cary, NC and plans to major in journalism and minor in Spanish or psychology. She wants to focus on investigative journalism. Her ultimate goal is to help people and make an impact in any way possible.
